Issues of gender equity and diversity are gaining increased attention in Canada and internationally, including in the physician community. The CMA is taking steps to promote increased equity and diversity in medicine — of women and other under-represented groups — and to foster a more collaborative and respectful professional culture.
We’ve released a joint discussion paper developed with the Federation of Medical Women of Canada (FMWC), entitled “Addressing Gender Equity and Diversity in Canada’s Medical Profession: A Review ”. The CMA will be seeking member feedback on this document in 2019.
Our other activities in this area:
- Release of new CMA Charter of Shared Values, which includes a section on diversity
- Making connections with the CMA-supported, physician-led community of interest on Creating an Inclusive Medical Community, and with Joule’s Women in Medicine Roundtables
- Planned release of statement with FMWC on gender equity and diversity in medicine on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2019
- Planned release of new CMA policy on equity and diversity in medicine (2019)
